March Thematic Calendar & Units

Here’s a little {sneak} peek at what March will look like for us in terms of thematic units . . .clip_image007

We will be using math and literacy activities from the following units that we have created . . .

In our reading series we will be finishing up Theme 7 the week of March 5-9.  That week our main story is If You Give A Pig A Pancake by Laura Numeroff.  Last year we developed an entire set of center and literature based activities to go along with all of Laura Numeroff’s other popular circle stories.  It was one of our favorite weeks EVER.  Each day we would focus on a different story and do an activity to go with it.  Then at the end of the week our kids wrote their very own circle stories.

You can head over to our class blogs to see pictures and read about all the fun we had last year.

This year we decided to take a entire week off from our reading series.  The week before Spring Break {March 12-17} we are not going to introduce any new skills.  Instead, we are going to spend the entire week doing all of the activities in our Laura Numeroff Circle Story Unit.

  2. So I LOVE your stuff!! I'm in awe of all the units. I teach second grade and would really love to integrate as many things as I can. I would love to create units to use i my classroom that got with our curriculum. I would love to know how you go about coming up with the units, integrating all the subjects into them, organizing them, and using them. I would love to glean as much as possible from you guys. Thanks for being great teachers and sharing your amazing talents!

  6. You have inspired me to look at my calendar and figure out what I am going to do for themes each week. I have a Laura Numeroff unit and can't figure out when to fit it in what with Dr Suess, Dinosaurs, Economics, Weather and everything else I need to do. I must do it! Thanks.

  7. These units look really great! I was wondering, since you change your centers every week, how do you teach or share what to do at each center? Thanks! :) ~Heidi V.
