Summer is HERE!!!

Congratulations to all of the winners in our Countdown to Summer giveaway.

After a very long 13 hour day yesterday spent moving our colleagues and then getting our own classrooms reorganized and redecorated we can officially say that our summer break has begun.

For the past few weeks we have been getting all of our Back to School materials ready to go.  We have the luxury of being able to send all of our copies to the district copy center and there is a VERY quick turnaround.  After a little blood, sweat and tears we have almost everything copied and filed away.

One of our most recent BIG projects was creating a set of Word of the Day worksheets and posters that go along with our Houghton Mifflin reading series.  We had originally intended to sell it as one big unit, but due to the size of the files our computers had trouble supporting both the worksheets and posters so we had to break it up into two separate downloads.

Here is a complete listing of the words that are included in both files.

If you are a Houghton Mifflin user like us you will find that the worksheets build on previous skills and words that have already been taught.  We tried very hard to incorporate words students should have already learned into the daily sight word sentences.  We also added an additional element to all of the worksheets from themes 3-10 that require students to decide if they wrote an asking or telling sentence.

Here is a {sneak} peek of some of the theme 1 worksheets and posters.

Each theme is color coded for organization purposes . . . not too mention they are quite cute!!!

Each day . . .

1.  Students will practice writing the word neatly (2 times) using the lines and spaces correctly.

2.  Students will write the word in a sight word sentence.

3.  Students will cut out the the scrambled letters at the bottom of the page and arrange them to complete the sight word sentence.

4.  Students will write their own sentence using the word.

5.  Students will decide if they wrote an asking or telling sentence and circle the correct response. {Themes 3-10}

If you are not a Houghton Mifflin you could still use all of these worksheets and posters in your classroom to introduce new sight words.  This set includes nearly every word on the Dolch and Fry Sight Word Lists . . . which we all know are words that every beginning reader must learn.

To celebrate the beginning of summer all of the items in our TpT store are on sale through the end of the day on Monday.  We hope all of you have a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend.
