Animal Antics

Our newest unit called Animal Antics has been a real labor of love.  We originally got started on it last year but kept coming up with more and more activities that we wanted to add to it.  It’s full of activities that reinforce math and literature using some of our favorite animal themed books.

Here’s a little {sneak} peek at everything that is included.animal antics sneak peek

Earth Day

Next week we will be celebrating Earth Day and learning how we can take care of our planet.

One of our favorite books to read is Miss Fox’s Class Goes Green by Eileen SpinelliIt is a wonderful book to use as a read aloud or at a listening center to get students thinking about things they can do to keep our Earth healthy.  Then we always make a class book to add to our classroom library.  Each student will write and illustrate a page about what they will do to GO GREEN.

Another activity that we will be doing during the week is creating an Earth Day Equation flipbook.  Students will solve addition and subtraction equations and sort them by deciding if the answer is less than 10, equal to 10 or greater than 10.  As we begin to align our activities more and more with the Common Core Standards this is a skill that our students will need to be able to do.

Have a great weekend . . . we will both be spending our weekend in the sun (and wind . . . we’re in Kansas you know) watching our kids play softball and baseball.  Good luck to the Emporia State University softball team and the Wichita A’s 11 year old baseball team!!!

Here’s a {sneak} peek at all of the activities that are included in our Incredible Insect Math & Literacy Centers that we will be using with our kiddos during our daily center rotations.

We also have a set of Insect Literature Activities  that we created last year that we will be using as well to incorporate reading, writing, math & art.
