Getting Back to Reality!

We can’t tell you how impressed we are with all those teachers out there that can handle teaching all day, parenting all night, and then actually having time to blog what’s going on in their classrooms. We enjoyed the posts on Blog Hoppin last week but just couldn’t keep up with everyone. We did get to peek into some really neat classrooms and loved all the ideas that you all shared! We both would come to school the next day and share with each other the awesome ideas we saw as we laid in our beds with our Ipads! We decided you all have WAY more energy than we do right now!

We are finally getting around to posting some pictures of our classrooms and what we have been up to the past 14 days of school. We have survived our first week of centers. The kids loved rotating and doing our color day centers. We were excited to use our new center posters and nametags. The rotations worked out great! It’s been fun getting the kids in guided reading groups and listening to them read. We are off and running! Here’s a peek at our classrooms:

We finished up our Color Day Fun unit and we are on to our ABC Fun unit and are in the process of finishing up our Common Core Cats Galore centers (will be posted this weekend!) to use with all the fun Pete the Cat things we have found. We are doing a story in reading next week called Mac the Cat  so we are going to integrate Pete the Cat things and short a! In guided reading we are using a lot of our Short Vowel Fun unit and Reading A-Z Decodable Readers. We have been introducing our Word of the Day with our color words and will start using our Sight Word of the Day. We think these have been great to introduce compete sentence writing. We also plan to post our Fall Word of the Day pack soon!

Yes, we are getting back to reality and getting things done again. Wasn’t summer fun?? We miss the lazy days of summer, sleeping in, snacking and restroom breaks when we wanted, and the family time…but LOVE first graders and their excitement to learn! We hope you are all having a wonderful start to your year! Have a fantastic 3 day weekend!

We are Survivors

Hello all . . . we survived our first full week of school.

Thanks to Christy at First Grade Fever we found this {super} cute project first day of school project.  Make sure you head over to her TpT store and check it out.

It was a very eventful week in first grade for us . . . we apologize for being BAD bloggers and not taking lots of pictures to share with you.  We were both so wrapped up in everything that was going on that we never even thought about our cameras.  We promise to do a much better job this week taking pictures of all our color day fun activities.

We also wanted to let you know that for the sake of our families and our own sanity we have decided to discontinue our individual classroom blogs.  We simply do not have time to keep both of them AND this one up and running.  It is just too time consuming!!!  So, what this essentially means is, we will be posting everything {HERE}.  It’s a big change for both of us, so please bare with us.

On a funny note . . . we couldn’t resist sharing this picture.

Check out the name!!!

A sweet little boy in Kelly’s class wrote this name on his paper Friday.  He told her it was a “much cooler name than Chris” so he was going to change his name. . . ha, ha!!!

We will be kicking off the new school year with our Color Day Fun unit.  It is always one of our favorite units of the year.  It incorporates lots of great literature, creative writing and math activities while reviewing basic Kindergarten/1st grade skills and standards.

Look for several colorful posts next week.

New Center Themes

We’re back . . .

and we are so excited to share three new sets of thematic materials that we just posted in our TpT store.  They can all be used in your classroom to organize your guided reading groups and literacy/math centers.  We know many of you have been using these materials throughout the past year so we thought it would be fun to create some generic sets that could be used in a variety of themed classrooms.  Plus . . . we wanted something new for ourselves, too!!!

For more specific information about how we do centers a step-by-step guide is available along with free downloads {here}.

Each new set is available in two separate downloads.  We had to do it this way so we could create the posters on larger (11x17) paper.  It’s important to have them large so they can be displayed and easily seen by students.

We’ve spent a few marathon evening together trying to get everything organized.

Our official first day back is Tuesday and believe it or not . . . we have open house that same evening.  So, we are headed up to school to work in our classrooms all day today.  It might be another late night.  As soon as we’ve got everything put together we will post a few pics of our classrooms.
