100th Day of School

clip_image002

It’s hard to believe that tomorrow is already our 100th day of school.

It’s become tradition to have this little snack waiting for the kids on their desks when they arrive.

Here are a few of the other things we will be doing in our classrooms . . .

The kids will all get to flip a coin 100 times and record if they got heads or tails AND roll a dice 100 times and record what number they roll each time. Then they can color code each turn and create a math problem that should equal 100. It’s fun to get out the calculators to let them check their work!!!

Each kiddos will also get to make their own book about the number 100. On each page they have to finish the sentence to tell about 100 things they could lift, 100 things they would like to eat, 100 things they would not like to eat, what they would do with $100, what they wished they could have 100 of and what they would never want to have 100 of. There is also space for illustrations on each page.

One of our favorite books to read on the 100th Day of School is I’ll Teach My Dog 100 Words by Michael Frith. After we read the book the kids will all make a book about 100 words they can read and write. They are always shocked to see that they know so many words!!!

We will also be reading The Wolf’s Chicken Stew by Keiko Kasza and making a 100th Day “snack mix” stew to munch on throughout the day.

We wish all of you a Happy 100th Day of School!

What the Teacher Wants!

This post is LONG over due, but the sickness has hit us and we can’t seem to get back on track! On January 11 we were SOOOOOO lucky to meet up with Rachelle from What the Teacher Wants! She was in Wichita to present at a conference and she let us know she was going to be in town so we went out for a “fancy” dinner at Panera Bread! It was incredible to meet her!!! She was so sweet and it felt like we had been friends forever! We got to chat for about 2 hours and then had to drop her back at her hotel so she could prepare for her presentation. We were sad that we were unable to attend her sessions and see her in action, but we were sure it was informative and full of “rigor” for the common core! She is incredible! Thanks for coming to Wichita Rachelle!!! We hope you are feeling better-she got sick when she got back and this stuff is NO FUN!!

How many of you have to work tomorrow? We are in session so we will be teaching about MLK! Then we are starting our Penguins on Parade unit and can’t wait-kids love to learn about Penguins!!

Have a GREAT week!!

This morning we used one of the cut and paste activities in this unit along with one of our thematic word of the day worksheets from our Winter Word of the Day packet as a morning job.  We always have activities like this laying out each morning for our kiddos to begin working on as soon as they get their backpacks unloaded and take lunch count.
